Tame the wire: turning Godel's news firehose into a feed worth reading
The weekend after Nvidia's August earnings, the wire scoped to that one stock held four hundred results. Somewhere in the stack sat the headline that mattered — net income more than doubling to $59.7 billion, from a real newswire, stamped to the second. Around it: "3 AI Stocks to Watch Beyond NVIDIA," "Here's How Much You'd Have if You Invested $250…," weekend roundups, promotional content shoulder-to-shoulder with Reuters. Picture trying to form a view of that stock's week from this feed raw. Now picture the trader whose feed shows the newswires, the government documents, and the filings — and none of the rest. What's in the panel
The left rail cuts the wire five ways, and Source Type is the one that changes your life first: checkboxes for Blog, Broadcast Transcript, Business & Financial Newswire, General Newswire, Government Document, Magazine, News Aggregator, Newspaper, Online News Portal, Press Release, and the professional-journal and transcript categories. Filings gets its own section — ownership, prospectus, proxy, regulatory and the rest — so filing notices join your feed or don't, your call. Geography and language do what they say. Set to Recommended applies the vendor's defaults, and the category chips below show exactly what that includes.
How the trader in the scenario cut it
Aggregators and the promotional end of the blog category produce most of the noise — the content that exists to be about stocks rather than from companies or wires. Cut those two first and the stream changes character immediately. Keep both newswire categories and Government Document. Press Release is a judgment call I resolve by keeping it: they're primary sources wearing marketing clothes, and a real 8-K often arrives dressed as one.
Mechanics that matter: Save persists the configuration to your account — every news window everywhere inherits it — so experiment with Cancel in hand until the stream looks right. And the source column is your permanent audit: when a source keeps earning your annoyance, its whole category is one visit from gone.
The habits that finish the job
/ searches inside the stream — faster than scrolling every time you're
hunting something specific. Pause freezes the flow while you read. And
the watchlist selector in the toolbar re-scopes the wire from one stock to
your entire book, which turns a
name-by-name check into reading your portfolio's morning like a paper. The

minutes what the raw feed buries in four hundred rows — and when the next
$59.7 billion headline crosses, it lands on a page quiet enough to notice.
